The Computershop Amesbury has now closed.

At the beginning of this year the opportunity came up to make use of the retail premises in Amesbury with little commitment and low initial cost, an opportunity which without hesitation I took up. The aim was simple; to see if I could expand our IT business into the domestic market.

We opened the doors in early February and despite a reasonable response, simply have not received enough work to make it worthwhile continuing the venture.

I fear that small independent retail shops are coming to an end and no amount of campaigning from local chambers are going to change that – quite frankly why would you buy the same product at a higher price than you can get from a supermarket? This is not to say I agree with this trend but the reality is we have all become accustomed to the ease of which you can purchase all these other items at the same time as your fruit and veg, not to mention the savings that can be made.

It isn't all bad...

Is that the end of the story? It would seem not! We continue to see strong growth in our corporate support business, Computersmiths Ltd., particularly as we move in to new areas of technology. We are re-launching our phone system offering as well as being able to provide services such as Web Design, Video Production, Search Engine Optimisation and much more.

I would like to thank all of you who showed your support of the shop and although we are not looking to continue with a retail operation, we will always be willing to help where we can.
